Cal Defeats La Serna

In a true team effort, as every wrestler’s match mattered in the outcome, Cal rallied to defeat La Serna on criteria. Cal fell behind but started to gain momentum when Jr. Avila (HWT) pinned his opponent in his first match of the year. Torrey Moreno followed with a first round fall. Cal then lost in Sal’s first match this season. Cal’s captain, Jon Toro, followed with a decision. The see saw continued as La Serna won at 125 and Cal’s Alex Gray at 130 and Abraham Romero at 135. Cal then lost the 140 match placing LS ahead. With two matches to go it came down to Elias Rodriguez and Matt Melendrez performing well. Elias won in what was originally awarded a major decision but then downgraded to a decision. Matt then scored a first round pin tying the score but securing the team win via most pins. It was a great match as both Del Rio teams put two very good dual meet teams on the mat.

Cal JV squad performed very well in a victory over La Serna.
